Buttock augmentation with implants

  • An incision is made either
    • where the cheek meets back of the thigh or
    • down the buttock crease
  • The buttocks tissue and skin are lifted to create a pocket either directly under the gluteus maximus muscle, or on top of it.
  • The implants are placed above the sitting area of the buttocks to prevent sitting on them and to reduce the possibility of the implants shifting.
  • The procedure is repeated for the other cheek after which the doctor affirms the symmetry and appearance of the buttocks.
  • Finally the incisions are sutured, and a bandage is placed that provides compression to the buttocks which in turn helps reduce discomfort and swelling.

The surgery usually takes 2-3 hours to complete

Buttock augmentation with fat injections

  • The buttock is first contoured by performing liposuction in the areas around the buttocks to make them stand out more. Common areas suctioned include the back- directly above the butt, the waist, and the thighs.
  • The fat suctioned from these areas is carefully processed in a special centrifuge and then injected into the areas of the buttock needing augmentation using special cannulas and placed in different areas at different depths to give a uniform, smooth, natural appearance.

  • The taped dressing that is applied during surgery to provide compression and support is usually removed two to three days following surgery.
  • The patient feels tired and sore for a few days following the surgery though she will regain normalcy in 24 to 48 hours.
  • The stitches are removed after 7- to 10 days
  • The swelling in the buttocks may take three to five weeks to disappear.

  • Sitting can be done from the next day after surgery but the patient must not sit directly on the buttocks for 1-2 weeks.
  • The patient must wear a special body garment to control swelling for about 3-4 weeks
  • The patient may return to work in about 3-5 days, but it will take one month before to feel completely normal.
  • The patient can now take showers and begin to move around more normally.
  • Full activities including gym work, bicycling, and running can usually be resumed about four weeks following surgery.
  • The results can be seen immediately but the buttocks look more natural and become softer as the muscle stretches during the several months after surgery.
